Heavy-duty motor selection for mining conveyor systems

Size the capacity based on starting torque and shock load, and select protection class and bearing configuration suitable for dusty environments.

This article isExample, used to explain methods and processes; does not represent confirmed client partnerships or project outcomes.

Conveyor start-up conditions often determine motor sizing more than steady-state operation. Full-load starting, low winter temperatures, and voltage dips all impact available torque.

During the selection phase, we collected conveying length, incline angle, belt speed, load capacity, and start frequency to verify starting torque and thermal capacity, and confirmed the protection class and bearing lubrication method.

After on-site installation, conduct phased no-load, half-load, and full-load tests. Record current and temperature rise to establish a baseline for future maintenance.
